Treatment Detail

Iontophoresis

Iontophoresis is a treatment for those who suffer from excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). Iontophoresis process entails passing a small electrical current through an electrolyte solution which is in contact with the skin. The passage of ions into the skin stops sweat production from the sweat glands.

For treatment of sweating of palms and soles, hands or feet are bathed in the solution. Other areas such as armpits are treated by passing electrical current through special pads soaked in the solution.

This process takes 30-40 minutes with tap water for each area. This should be repeated for a minimum of 4 consecutive days. Nowadays hyperhidrolis can effectively treated also by botox injections over these areas.

Side effects are uncommon and minor, but include mild discomfort, a rash and scaling of the skin at the treatment site.
